The Five Golden Rules

These rules were launched today at a brief ceremony at The Leadership Academy opening chapel this morning. The rules further deepen the leadership ethos and philosophy. The rules drawn up by a team of staff dedicated to the development of the institution expanded on the logos found in II Timothy 2:15 and motto; work hard and glorify God. The combined themes of leadership, study, work and the Glory of God are central to the Academy culture in which the children learn, live and appreciate the value leadership principles for personal and social success

WORK HARD & GLORIFY GOD

Each of us has the responsibility to be a valued contributor in society primarily through our work. By working hard to be the best one can be, the world will benefit from the gifts, abilities, interests and talents bestowed in upon them and which they are endowed with. Working hard is not just a good maxim; it is the essence of life and brings glory to God, the author and creator of all things. Our work affirms and magnifies His intentions of what he made us to do and to be.

RESPECT AUTHORITY AND OTHERS

Respect for authority gives rise to order in society. Respect for others makes for good relations and peaceful interaction in society. These are corporate disciplines that if not mastered early in life can cause enduring undue friction between one and every other at home, at work, in organizations and society at large. Mastering this discipline in ones youth prepares one not just to be a good person, but one who qualifies for leadership responsibility.

LEAD BY EXAMPLE

This is the most powerful yet most practical leadership principle. It does not require power, authority, resources or even a position of leadership. Everyone can lead by example. Learning that one has the ability to lead in ones youth, enables them to invest in and develop leadership ability at every opportunity and opening to do so. One gradually gains confidence and the capacity to lead by developing the ability to lead by example into a skill.

BE RESPONSIBLE AND PRESENTABLE

At any one time everyone is responsible for something. When people shirk, absolve themselves of, and abandon responsibility the result is moral decay and decent into social immorality. By learning to accept responsibility, a person takes control of their environment and their destiny. Being presentable is not only a mark of self respect, it shows ones respect for others. Neat dress, organization of personal space, managing time, personal disciplines and the fear of God makes one presentable.

BE A TEAM PLAYER

One of the greatest privileges and fulfilling experiences of human existence is to be a member of a vibrant, cohesive and successful team. Being a team player is about pooling individual knowledge, skills and resources to pursue a valued common goal. Being a team player in the home, school, games team, workplace and society is a highly prized function and a distinct measure of individual character. Investing in the development of being a team player early in life will prepare you for executive responsibility at every point in your career and life.
